September is Go4Life Month

Challenge yourself to move more; do a little more; work out a little harder
The National Institute on Aging at the National Institutes of Health has established Go4Life® Month in September to focus on fitness for older adults. Several Presbyterian Homes & Services’ (PHS) communities are participating in Go4Life Month with a variety of events for residents.

This year's Go4Life Month theme is Move More with Go4Life, encouraging older adults to be active more often, to push a little harder, and to try 4 types of exercise:

  • ž    Endurance
  • ž    Strength
  • ž    Balance
  • ž    Flexibility

Each week in September, the PHS Wellness Team will lead WINGS® wellness classes emphasizing one of these 4 types of excercise.
The team also recommends Go4Life exercises that anyone can do at home. Or follow the Go4Life video series on YouTube.

Wellness Activities in September
September 11-17: Assisted Living Week.  The theme this year, established by the National Center for Assisted Living, is “Family is Forever,” inspired by a quote from the poet Maya Angelou: “Family isn’t always blood, it’s the people in your life who want you in theirs: the ones who accept you for who you are, the ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what.” The theme emphasizes the social dimension of wellness through activities that create and strengthen social connections. Invite a friend to join you at your favorite exercise class or, if you are able, share time and a favorite activity with loved ones.

September 22, the first day of the fall season, is also Fall Prevention Awareness Day. Read on for tips from the National Council on Aging (NCOA) about how to stay safe and upright.

September 24-30 is Active Aging Week, promoted by the International Council on Active Aging. One of the themes of this initiative is “Get Skin Health Smart”. Click here to learn more about this important topic.

It’s a busy, active month – We wish you WELL!
