Shared Ministry Sisters of Charity, BVM and Presbyterian Homes & Services bring unique and differing strengths and accomplishments to Mount Carmel Bluffs. They engage in this ministry with common values and shared wisdom. Their diverse, yet complementary strengths and accomplishments, demonstrate their capacity for success in this endeavor. The Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) is a religious community of women whose members, in response to a personal call from God, have chosen a vowed life of prayer, ministry and community. In response to this call, BVMs express their mission of being freed and helping others enjoy freedom in service to God’s people through their core values of freedom, education, charity and justice. Today BVM Sisters minister in a variety of ways as educators, advocates for the elderly and underprivileged, hospital and hospice chaplains, prison and parish ministers, and spiritual guides. They are committed to joining with others to work for justice and care for the Earth. Located in Dubuque, Iowa, the Mount Carmel campus is the home of nearly 160 retired sisters and the administrative headquarters of the Sisters of Charity, BVM. Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS), based in St. Paul, Minnesota, is a non-profit, faith-based organization providing a broad array of high quality housing choices, care and service options for older adults. 6,620 employees serve 27,000 older adults through 49 PHS-affiliated senior living communities in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa, and through Optage® home and community services. In 2019 PHS also became co-owner of Genevive, a progressive model of primary care, care navigation and value-based services for over 5,300 older adults in Minnesota. Established in 1955, PHS has earned the reputation as an innovative leader concerned with promoting independence, vitality and well-being for those they serve.
