Shared Ministry

Sisters of Charity, BVM and Presbyterian Homes & Services bring unique and differing strengths and accomplishments to Mount Carmel Bluffs. They engage in this ministry with common values and shared wisdom. Their diverse, yet complementary strengths and accomplishments, demonstrate their capacity for success in this endeavor.

The Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) is a community of religious women whose members, in response to a personal call from God, have chosen a vowed life of prayer, ministry, and community. In response to this call, BVMs express their mission of being freed and helping others enjoy freedom in service to God’s people through their core values of freedom, education, charity and justice. Today BVM Sisters minister in a variety of ways as educators, advocates for the elderly and underprivileged, hospital and hospice chaplains, prison and parish ministers, and spiritual guides. They are committed to joining with others to work for justice and care for the Earth. Located in Dubuque, Iowa, the Mount Carmel campus is the home to retired Sisters and the administrative headquarters of the Sisters of Charity, BVM.
