APPLE VALLEY, MN— Local community and business leaders joined senior leaders and staff of Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS) in a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, of Orchard Path, the newest PHS senior living community in the Twin Cities metropolitan area located at 5400 157th Street W, Apple Valley, MN 55124. A Grand Opening for the public will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018.
The dedication ceremony marked the completion of construction to meet the needs of a rapidly growing older adult population, create jobs and support the economy in the region. Mayor Mary Hamann-Roland expressed her appreciation to PHS for its commitment to the seniors and families of Apple Valley. “There are many people in this room who have made a difference in the city of Apple Valley. I’m so pleased that Presbyterian Homes & Services and Orchard Path are allowing people who have lived in Apple Valley to continue to live in Apple Valley,” she said.
Orchard Path is situated on a 13-acre site on the western shore of Cobblestone Lake in Apple Valley and adjacent to Cobblestone Park. Its name draws on the early history of the area, known for its apple trees and orchard farms. “The word Orchard brings to mind life, growth, beauty, and nourishment, while Path represents movement, direction and even adventure,” said Linda Engelken, Housing Advisor for Orchard Path. Mayor Hamann-Roland noted that Orchard Path aligns with the city’s vision, “Healthy to the core and fit for a lifetime.” She said, “In Orchard Path you live in a quality home next to a park with exercise equipment and in a neighborhood. That will make a difference. Thank you to PHS for making an investment in Apple Valley.”
Ed Kearney, President of the Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce shared a recent experience when he and his staff toured Orchard Path. “We couldn’t believe the amount of activity going on; the fun people were having, the laughter. This is a happy place!” he said. “The staff here is amazing. It’s a happy place because the people who work here are really good at what they do and it shows,” he said.
“Orchard Path provides a high-quality living experience with a wide variety of amenities and services,” Engelken said, The community offers 115 senior apartments, 58 assisted living apartments and 20 memory care apartments. The attached Town Center, with its grand two-story foyer is the community focal point. Offering a full range of amenities, the Town Center houses a salon, bistro, chapel, game lounge, library, movie theater, performing arts center and banquet room. Underground heated parking is also available to residents.
“Orchard Path is no longer a concept, a deal, a project or a development. It’s entering into its most important phase: a community,” said Jon Fletcher, Vice President of Senior Housing Partners. He shared the dedication of PHS to look beyond the checklists and dollars. “We believe we have a higher purpose and calling in what we do. For Presbyterian Homes, it’s about our mission to honor God by enriching the lives and touching the hearts of older adults,” he said.
The $56M project was developed by Essential Decisions, Inc. (EDI) with consulting and marketing support from Senior Housing Partners (SHP). The community was designed by Pope Architects, St. Paul, MN with interior design provided by Senior Lifestyle Design, the interior design arm of PHS. The general contractor is Anderson Companies of St. Louis Park, MN and financing is secured through Hamlin Capital Investments, Tampa, FL.
