Kind Regards: An honor to work alongside Jana

Today’s letter was written by Jamie Larson, Administrative Assistant at The Deerfield in New Richmond Wisconsin. Jamie wrote the letter to Campus Administrator Jen Anderson and Housing Director Jackie Waalen after her grandmother’s passing to express her gratitude for Life Enrichment Assistant Jana Olson.

Jana Olson and Jamie LarsonI’ve had the honor of working alongside Jana Olson over the past few years here at The Deerfield. I have both personally and professionally experienced Jana’s love and the passion she shares each day.

My grandma was living at the care center and her health had taken a turn for the worse. The day before she passed away, Jana softly knocked on the door and asked to join us. I gave her the chair next to my grandma and she sat down. She opened her “Jesus Calling” book and began reading scripture. It’s hard to put into words what happened that day. My mom and I had been a bit on edge not knowing what the next part of my grandma’s journey would look like.  Grandma had expressed that she was afraid of dying in days prior, but that day it all changed.

Jana gently held my grandma’s hand and read the Word of the Lord and brought us all such peace. She sat with us for a bit and let us experience all of our emotions. It was exactly what we needed, when we needed it. The next day when my grandma passed away- Jana was there and jumped right in to lead the Procession of Honor. What a beautiful gift!

My relationship with Jana began almost four years ago where we both worked in the Arbor memory care as resident assistants. The love and compassion she has for the residents and her coworkers is so evident. Jana then had the opportunity to transition into a life enrichment position and that is where she truly flourished.  Jana loves her job and has such a gift of spreading the Word of the Lord. When I think of our Value “Christian Ministry - To reflect the Love of God,” Jana does just that! I see her engaging in activities like the prayer walk with residents, scripture reading, singing hymns, and comforting them with prayer. I’m so inspired!

It is truly an honor to work alongside Jana.
