Make Your Mark: Nurse Cindy Alness exemplifies Christian Ministry

The mission of Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS), “to honor God by enriching the lives and touching the hearts of older adults,” is fulfilled when the actions of our employees demonstrate our stated values. In doing so, they “make their mark” upon those we serve. In our continuing series, “Make your Mark,” we introduce you to PHS employees who are living out these values.

Meet Cindy Alness, RN and Clinical Coordinator for The Commons assisted living at SummerWood of Chanhassen.  Cindy is making her mark by demonstrating the PHS value of Christian Ministry to the residents and families she serves and her co-workers with whom she shares in ministry.

When asked what brings her the most joy and meaning in my work, Cindy replied, “The opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus as I come along side residents and their families, staff and visitors. I am able to listen, meet needs, encourage and pray with those I serve. My work is ministry, not just a job.”

Cindy’s co-workers have recognized how she is making her mark when she offers  her service as her ministry. Amy Stock, Campus Administrator at SummerWood says this about Cindy:

“Cindy is a faith-filled servant who believes in serving with her entire being. Cindy is a nurse who understands that the spiritual self is the core of what makes up a person.  She delivers messages of hope to residents, families, team members, volunteers and visitors of SummerWood. She can sense what they need at that very moment whether a hug, kind word, message of hope, prayer, listening ear, or just to be present in silence.

“Cindy is humble, respectful and trustworthy. She makes you feel you are the most important person in that moment. She reads, knows, believes, lives and speaks from the Bible. She is an angel here on earth. Love one another runs through her veins. Cindy exemplifies our Christian Culture through and through.”

Thank you to Cindy and all the PHS employees who understand their service as Christian Ministry and fulfill their calling and the PHS mission every day.
