Make your Mark: Spring Frans

The mission of Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS), “to honor God by enriching the lives and touching the hearts of older adults,” is fulfilled when the actions of our employees demonstrate our stated values. In doing so, they “make their mark” upon those we serve. In our continuing series, “Make your Mark,” we introduce you to PHS employees who are living out these values.

We introduce you to Spring Frans, Human Resource Representative and Office Manager at St. Andrew’s Village in Mahtomedi , Minnesota. Spring is making her mark by demonstrating the PHS value of Christian Ministry to the residents and families she serves and her co-workers.

Growing up in China, Spring’s mother and father encouraged her to greet everyone she encountered, even if she didn’t know them. She said, “What my parents did was a great gift to me. People appreciate someone who gives a sincere greeting and shows care and concern. I love how a simple greeting can bring the smile to their face.”

Through this practice, Spring discovered her affinity for older adults. She has learned from their experiences, willingness to sacrifice for others, patience, understanding and capacity for forgiveness. “Somehow, naturally I feel very comfortable when I spend time with older generations and find myself wanting do things for them,” she said.

Lydia Pfeifer, Nutrition & Culinary Director at St. Andrew’s Village, benefitted from Spring’s ministry when she joined the team this fall. “Spring has helped me to understand my essential duties and, when am overwhelmed, Spring always supports me with prayers and encouragement,” she said.  Spring’s example has helped Lydia define her work as ministry. “I always believed that God led me to be part of the St. Andrew’s team but Spring’s Christian attitude shown to me; her smiles, gentle and kind spirit and guidance through in my initial months just confirmed God's direction and guidance for me.”

Spring sees God’s hand at work within and among her coworkers, “God is good by providing a team that can share openly,” she said. “We can pray for each other, carry loads for each other, and have fun together. I think that is the beauty of the PHS culture and PHS’s success.”

Thank you to Spring and all the PHS employees who understand their service as Christian Ministry and fulfill their calling and the PHS mission every day.
