In recognition of National Nurses Week and National Skilled Nursing Care Week, we hear from residents, family and staff at one of our first and largest communities — Presbyterian Homes of Bloomington, MN.
This year’s theme is Together Through the Seasons, celebrating the steadfast dedication of skilled nursing care staff.
The community at Presbyterian Homes of Bloomington testifies to overcoming challenges of the pandemic through commitment, care and connection.
Staff show commitment. Marissa Vossen, Life Enrichment Director, says she feels committed as though to her own family. “I love the residents here,” she says. “And I think God totally placed me here. During my first week here, my grandma died. Now I have gained 400 new grandparents!”
Residents feel the compassionate care. Speaking on behalf of fellow residents, Dick says, “I can really honestly say we don’t feel as if the staff are working. We feel as if each staff are members of our families because they really care.”
Resident Lois writes in a letter of gratitude to staff, “You are all special to all of us, and why we are so grateful to be safe and well here while getting to know and enjoy you all.”
Families appreciate the connection. Nancy writes, “With COVID restrictions and me living out of state, it was not possible to visit [my sister Julie]. But I always felt she was receiving the best care.”
She continues, “You made this difficult time so much easier because I always felt I could call you with any questions.”
Now in the Spring season, there’s renewed hope. Campus Administrator Michelle Sullivan reflects, “I am grateful for the new beginnings we are experiencing on our campus,” and concludes in her letter to residents, families and staff, “May all of you find many blessings in this new season!”
