The Nursing Assistant is “the most important job” at Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS), says Dan Lindh, CEO and President. In this new series, witness Johanna’s journey to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with PHS.

By Johanna Fenton, Communication Specialist and Certified Nursing Assistant

Just a few years ago, I never imagined that, in 2021, I’d become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Let alone write a series to inform and inspire others!

There I was, in 2018, fumbling in the dark, seeking employment and fresh purpose — after hitting one too many rough patches in life.

That’s when I got the invitation: to set aside my preconceived ideas about where I was going and what I was capable of doing.

How about you? Are you willing to dream bigger? Or maybe you know a friend or family member who wants to jumpstart a career…

Well, today I’m going to show and tell you about how quickly I became a Certified Nursing Assistant.

One super solution is OnTrack with PHS. So far, it’s available in Minnesota. It’s what I describe as the FREE, fast and flexible way. In 10 days, you get free, complete training delivered two ways: online and in person (in Roseville, MN).

Watch this FAST time-lapse video of Johanna becoming a CNA in no time. ????

If you or your friends live in Wisconsin or Iowa, rest assured there are other great options for CNA training. (I encourage you to ask when applying at Presbyterian Homes & Services.)

After training, simply pass the state exam (it’s not too hard!), and your name is added to the state’s CNA registry.

You. are. a. CNA. ???? Totally doable!

Except… before you begin, you might have more questions, such as:

  • What do CNAs do, exactly?
  • Is it hard work?
  • How do I know if it’s a good fit for me?
  • Which PHS location is near me?
  • Finally… is it worth it?

I’ll share more in coming weeks with answers to common questions — plus stories and tips from other CNAs!

Finally, friends, the PHS ministry has a great need for caregivers.

So, if you have an interest, I strongly encourage you to reflect and, if you feel comfortable, pray. Contact PHS to learn more about the many opportunities to serve at a location near you. Share this news with your family and friends, too!
