EDEN PRAIRIE, MN (May 6, 2022) — What does it take to construct a state-of-the-art senior living community? Those attending the dedication of Flagstone senior living community in Eden Prairie, Minn., heard both the humorous and critical details as they celebrated Presbyterian Homes & Services’ (PHS) newest campus, located at 8350 Commonwealth Drive.
Dave Herzberg, vice president and project executive for Adolfson & Peterson Construction, Flagstone’s general contractor, offered some fun statistics about the makeup of Flagstone. He noted that the community includes 1,125 windows; 3,485 doors; 2.3 million square feet of drywall; 3.7 million screws; and 70 miles of pipes of all kinds.
“That’s a lot of stuff,” Herzberg observed. “To take all that stuff and convert it into this beautiful community takes a lot of collaboration, communication and teamwork, and we had a great team on this project.”
Eden Prairie Mayor Ron Case spoke to the importance of planning to meet the needs of a rapidly growing senior population. He expressed his gratitude to PHS for its commitment to creating a vibrant community that offers a full continuum of care and services for older adults.
“I was part of the groundbreaking for this development back in 2019,” said Case. “This great community has changed the skyline, it’s changed the world of senior care here in Eden Prairie, and I think it has changed the concept of ‘state of the art.’ This is very exciting for the people living here.”
Flagstone is situated in a major master-planned development that also offers retail/commercial business and market-rate apartments. Centrally located in Eden Prairie, it provides access to retail shops and dining while still close to nature and beautiful views of Purgatory Creek. Flagstone includes independent living, assisted living, memory care apartments, and a care center with private suites.
Duane Larson, senior vice president operations for PHS, noted that building relationships is at the heart of PHS’ mission and ministry. “We continue to honor God by enriching the lives and touching the hearts of those we build relationships with,” he stated. For Larson, this includes developing beautiful living environments, places to socialize, great meals, activities, and staff who feel called to honor relationships with and among residents.
Addressing Flagstone residents Larson said, “We are so grateful that you’ve entrusted yourselves to our community, to Presbyterian Homes & Services, and to our ministry.”
Flagstone amenities include a chapel, dining rooms, a fitness center and pool, craft room, library, bistro, salon, wood shop and club lounge. Outdoor amenities include a fire pit, pickleball court, putting green, yoga studio and walking paths.
Steve Nornes, senior project developer for Senior Housing Partners, the development arm of PHS, believes the new Flagstone community offers older adults the choices they need to live well both today and every day.
“As a developer, we ask what we can do to create a place where people are going to want to move in, maintain their preferred lifestyle, live well, grow, and celebrate,” Nornes noted. Based on residents’ enthusiastic response to life at Flagstone, Nornes believes Flagstone has achieved these goals.
The redevelopment project was designed by InSite Architects, Inc., St. Paul, Minn. The general contractor was Adolfson & Peterson Construction of Golden Valley, Minn., and financing was secured through Hamlin Capital Management, LLC, of New York, N.Y.
