A Liberty Dream that was music to the ears

Harold Goede lives at Kirkland Crossings in Pewaukee, WI and loves music. He was a choir director and church organist for many years. In fact, he played organ for services until he was 88 years old!
Harold was also a teacher for 47 years, and his connection to Wisconsin Lutheran High School (WLHS) runs especially deep with multigenerational roots! Harold’s son also served there for 31 years, his grandson is currently a teacher there and his great-granddaughter is a current student and member of the choir!
Recently, in one of many conversations, Harold was sharing his love of music and teaching with Life Enrichment Director Andrea Zeitler and mentioned the school. That’s when Andrea shared that she is the cheer coach there, and two girls in her squad are also in the choir!
As their talk continued, Harold shared that he had the privilege and pleasure of watching six grandchildren sing in choirs and musicals over the years and that he would love to see a choir performance again.
Through her personal connections with the school, Andrea reached out to the current choir director, who was immediately on board with making this personal, intimate concert happen!
The day of the concert arrived, and it happened to be Harold’s 95th birthday too! Harold got dressed in a his new WLHS shirt, thanks to Andrea. Harold said the shirt brought back so many fond memories.
Family members representing multiple generations joined Harold in the audience — as well as members of the Kirkland Crossings staff. Surrounded by their love, Harold sat back and savored all the hymns sung by the choir, especially Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, I Know That My Redeemer Lives, Abide With Me and, of course, Happy Birthday.
Harold’s son thanked Andrea and added, “I sense that Dad is seeing his entry into heaven approaching as he talks with me more about end-of-life issues and thoughts. I believe he loved this opportunity to hear the choir again.”
This Liberty Dream was quite literally music to Harold’s ears.
