Diverse talents, one mission

Light for the Way seriesWe invite you to take a peek inside our weekly Light for the Way devotional series provided for staff.

At Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS), our commitment to operational integrity is unwavering. With this in view, let’s use this time today to explore the profound impact each and every one of us can have in the success of our mission.

As a focusing lens of sorts, I chose today’s Scripture verse from our biblical framework to help us better understand the critical importance of our third CROSS value.

1 Peter 4:10 reminds us, "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms."

This verse encourages us to remain steadfast in doing what is right. In terms of operational integrity, each of us has a unique job to perform and many opportunities throughout the day to shine God’s loving grace through the diverse gifts and abilities He has built into us.

For some, this may entail helping a resident perform their morning routines. It may be something as simple as picking up a piece of trash in a well-traveled hallway to ensure residents are safe from tripping hazards; it may include preparing or serving meals to residents. And there are many employees whose roles require processing large amounts of paperwork.

Doubtless to say, the various tasks we perform each day are vital to our communities. Nothing is small at PHS!

Remember: It is easy to grow weary in doing good, but a commitment to excellence in love requires dedication. This same dedication to excellence always leads to success in our organization’s mission“To honor God by enriching the lives and touching the hearts of older adults.”

I invite everyone hearing this message today to take a moment and look around yourself throughout the day. Look and see how you are enriching the lives of others and enjoy the fruits of your labor for a moment. At PHS, what you do matters immensely! Keep going, you are helping older adults experience God’s grace and love during one of the most challenging times of their lives.

The Light for the Way series provides staff with an examination of a biblical reading to deepen our focus on scripture. Thank you for engaging with this series as we seek wisdom through prayer and reflection as a Christian Ministry.
